Covarrubias-Aprendamos Foundation Director, Krystal Chavarria, will be Rocking the Runway for a Cause in support of the Hearts for Autism organization. The fundraising event, which is currently scheduled for April 11, 2026, was established to help provide resources for children with autism in Southern New Mexico.
When we asked Krystal what it means to be a part of the inaugural Rock the Runway for a Cause group, she shared how in her nineteen years in early intervention, she worked with many children who received an autism diagnosis. “I have compassionately guided families through the path of these unchartered waters, and I am humbled to have been a part of their journeys. Looking back, I can appreciate the trust and loyalty they had in myself and our team to provide them with quality and compassionate care,” she said. Personally, she also has experience supporting children with autism. “As a godmother whose godson has autism as well as his older brother, I have an immense purpose and drive to be their voice and make a difference for their future experiences and opportunities that are provided in Southern New Mexico. I Rock the Runway for not only the Hearts for Autism organization, but also for the Segura family and all of the families that have truly impacted my life.”
Krystal feels the Rock the Runway for a Cause event will ignite an immense presence and energy from our community, businesses, professionals, and families who have worked with or known a child with autism. “Hearts for Autism’s impact on our community has been profound. From coordinating and facilitating evidence-based training for licensed clinicians, home visitors, educators, and parents and caregivers, to providing youth with affordable registration fees for Camp New Amigos, they make a difference for children and teens every day.”
Camp New Amigos in particular is important to Krystal. “Historically, the Camp has been a transformative adventure and provided life-changing experiences for children with autism and has created a sense of belonging for them and their families,” she shared. She also feels it’s vital to come together in community to help Hearts for Autism sustain the growth of Camp New Amigos and provide children with autism new experiences and adventures that accommodate their needs.
Looking ahead, Krystal is inspired by the movement that Rock the Runway for a Cause has created and feels that this is only the beginning. By coming together to champion a cause, the goal is to create an annual event that will support a different community non-profit every year. As for this year’s event, there is excitement surrounding the initiative. “It is a time for community leaders and businesses to unify for one night in an event fueled with passion and appreciation for all the work the Hearts for Autism organization does for children and families,” she said.
